Young Enterprise at Old Spitalfields Trade Fair
Eezy Kit, the latest Young Enterprise company set up by entrepreneurial Year 12 students at The Ashcombe School, launched its unique idea and product to the world on 27th February 2024 at the trendy Old Spitalfields Market in London.
The trade fair gave student teams from 47 schools in the South-East a real-life opportunity to plan, prepare marketing materials, get their social media and website up to scratch and sell to the public. Judges quizzed the students on all aspects of their business – marketing, finance, sustainability and ethics and scored their products and stalls. Then came the tougher task of engaging lunch-time workers passing through Spitalfields to enjoy the many street food outlets and working out how to sell without feeling awkward or guilty of pressure sales!
The eight Year 12 students have created a pre-made kit idea for a sustainable cotton bag full of all the essentials (and some luxuries) you might need overnight at festivals, camping and backpacking. The idea came from their own experiences on Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions, backed up by market research and evaluated by fellow students. Sales on the day of over £60 and the positive feedback from judges and purchasers alike, means they are looking forward to seeing their online business grow and of selling in school to fellow Duke of Edinburgh participants.
