Young Carers Angel Award

On Tuesday, 21st October, the Young Carers community gathered to celebrate the incredible achievements of being awarded the Young Carers Angel Award. This event marked a significant step in supporting and raising awareness about young carers within the school.

As of November 2023, Fiona Darnell has taken on the vital role of Champion, dedicated to assisting young carers across our school. Under her guidance, the school has made remarkable progress in integrating support systems and awareness programs for young carers.

The school has been proactive in organising engaging themed events, such as a non-uniform day, to encourage participation and strengthen community involvement. In a significant move, the school updated its policies to include considerations for young carers, with new policies approved in November 2024. Moreover, the enrolment forms now feature questions aimed at identifying young carers, and a definition was added in September 2025 to ensure clarity and support. 

The efforts of Fiona Darnell have not gone unnoticed. Her hard work and dedication have laid a foundation for continued support and awareness for young carers in our school. The community expresses its gratitude as we look forward to building upon this important work.
