Year 11 Netball Finalists
National finalists! A fantastic achievement for our talented and hard-working Year 11 Netball team saw them travelling to Loughborough University to take part in the Sisters n Sport schools’ competition. The students had played some tough competition along the way to get to this final stage.
With a 4am wake up and long journey on Thursday 21st March, it was with great excitement that the team arrived, registered, picked up their Finalists hoodies and were shown to the changing rooms. They were given a tour of the University campus and saw elite and professional sporting arenas, facilities and opportunities. They grabbed some lunch, settled nerves and headed back to the changing room to get into the zone. A range of different energies were on show; however, once they took to the court to warm up, the girls became the ultimate professionals. Captain Lucy tossed for first centre and won (always a great start).
With the game being live streamed not only on social media but back at school for students and staff to watch, the girls were focused and determined. The girls found their rhythm and applied the defensive structure to turn over the ball many times. They went down by a few goals a couple of times but came back fighting, and got the score back to 9-9 at the end of Q3. Going into the final quarter, the umpires ruled it would come down to a golden goal if a draw on the final whistle. And, guess what - by the final whistle it was 14-14. Unfortunately, with the opposition in possession of the ball, it took 3 passes to make the final score 14-15 to Farmor’s School from Gloucestershire.
The team did Mrs Fennell and Mrs Evans so proud with their performances, professionalism and their hard work over the season. What an experience for us all, inspirational on so many levels!
A big shout out to Hannah Wakelin for also getting Player of the Match, chosen by the officials.
Congratulations girls, you are a credit to the school and should be so proud of yourselves.
