The Ashcombe does Christmas - Senior Citizens 2024

A school hall transformed into a scene of festive fun, with lots of happy smiling faces the day before school broke up for the Christmas holidays – yes, The Ashcombe School annual Christmas celebration with the local community was back!

Long a ‘must attend’ event for many of the older residents of the area, including grandparents of students and staff, residents of supported living, and senior citizens from the surrounding areas, the combination of delicious food prepared by Year 10 students, tea served by Sixth Formers, hosting by Year 8 students, festive music from choirs and ensembles, and the wonderful welcoming warmth of the whole school proved magical again this year.

The room was buzzing with laughter and reminiscences, and great delight as the generous raffle meant there were prizes for all.  Tea-time treats included pesto palmiers, cheese and spring onion quiche, mince pies, chocolate cookies, sandwiches and lashings of tea and coffee, plus the chance to join in the singing of favourite carols and seasonal songs.

In the run-up to the event, the school Houses compete to raise the most funds for the tea with the equally traditional Christmas Bazaars. They were an energetic success, with students and tutors coming together to create a wonderfully festive atmosphere and raising an impressive £851.20—a significant increase from last year’s total of £585.94. Congratulations to the winning house, Stuart, who raised a fantastic £244.73. Year 8 led the way with the highest year group total of £343.06, and 7YS stood out among tutor groups, contributing an outstanding £99.99. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and worked tirelessly to make the event such a joyful and successful celebration of the season.

It was a heartwarming end to the term and a festive reminder of the significant place The Ashcombe School has in the community.  A Happy New Year to all!
