Students Win their Case - Mock Trial Results
11 students took part in the Surrey Heat of The Magistrate's Mock Trial competition on Saturday 23rd March 2024 in the weighty surroundings of Guildford Magistrate's Court, and were delighted to emerge the winners who will go on to the next stage of the competition in the summer term.
The Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition helps young people understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, gaining an insight into how the legal justice system works.
The students had access to resources, including a specially written criminal case, to help them prepare legal arguments. After preparation, they went head-to-head with other schools to prosecute and defend the case.
For most students it is their first experience of the law. There is no better way to introduce them than in a fun and engaging experience that stays with them for life.
Students who take part are encouraged to think critically, build arguments and boost their confidence. The experience will help students develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the role of law and the justice system in our society.
They are eagerly looking forward to the next stage. Thanks to Miss Nichol and Mr Liu for their support, and especially Mr Liu's very realistic court sketches!
