Sponsored Walk 2024

As a very busy Summer Term drew to a close, and with Activities Week still fresh in the memory, there was still lots of enthusiasm for the annual Sponsored Walk – a chance to enjoy the amazing surroundings we live in and raise money for school projects.  This year it was £10K for Toilets as we look to refurbish the toilet block near the Dining Hall to bring it up to standard with all the other facilities.

Monday 22nd July dawned with a few clouds and the threat of some light rain but that didn’t put anyone off and students arrived in school, kitted out with trainers, big smiles. After a swift registration and the chance to buy refreshments from the Dining Hall, groups of students set off from the tennis courts outside the Ranmore entrance and headed up the Ashcombe Road towards the footpath to Denbies Wine Estate,

With spectacular views all along the 9-mile route, there was plenty to keep everyone enjoying the Surrey Hills and the regular checkpoints, ably staffed by our wonderful 6th Formers and staff proved welcome breaks and refreshment points. The first finishers were done in record time - some students effortlessly ran the route, and the very last back were Mr Blackband and Dr Carter ensuring no-one was left behind.

The support of the school, parents, grandparents, alumni, staff, and the local community in their sponsorship was phenomenal - several matched funding donations have been given by parents through their work connections, including a fantastic £1000 from Jo Dowling, which meant we exceeded our £10K target. It will ensure the school continues to give a range and quality of opportunities and facilities to Ashcombe students.

The funds will go towards the refurbishment and refitting of last set of toilets by the Dining Hall, and we look forward to sharing the fresh look soon.

A wonderful way to end another fantastic school year.
