Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expedition – The Lake District

The prospect of four days of walking with a full pack including tent, clothing and food meant that some groups went minimalist (pasta only, no sauce!), whilst others retained a few creature comforts. The variety of routes the students planned was impressive with some tackling the big stuff like Skiddaw and the Dodds, and others sticking to the more picturesque lakeside walks, but all of them experiencing the remoteness and self-sufficiency of a proper hike. As is so often the case, when faced with adversity our students respond and overcome all sorts of physical and organisational challenges, from broken boots to practising with the emergency shelter on a boiling hot summer’s day. The skills they have developed and their memories will stay with them forever. Well done to a fantastic crew!
