Ashcombe Swimmers Shine at the Surrey Schools Gala

On Saturday 17th January, a team of 15 of Ashcombe’s swimmers travelled to the Surrey Schools Gala at the Guildford Spectrum for an exciting day of competition. The students have been training with real dedication, and their hard work paid off with an outstanding set of performances.

Despite competing against mostly independent schools with state‑of‑the‑art swimming facilities, our swimmers rose to the challenge with determination and Ashcombe spirit. More than half the team achieved personal best times, an incredible achievement at a county‑level event.

A special congratulations goes to Evie, who delivered a phenomenal performance to win the 100m Backstroke—beating competitors from 15 other schools in a closely fought race.

Several swimmers were returning to competition for the first time in two years, while others stepped up to race in events they had never tried before. A particular mention goes to Amelia, who bravely took on the demanding 100m Butterfly and performed brilliantly.

Throughout the day, the team demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, cheering loudly and proudly for every Ashcombe swimmer. The event also featured some remarkable young athletes from other schools, including three who competed at the Swimming World Championships in Serbia last year—a truly inspiring experience for our team to witness.

A huge thank‑you to Mrs Betts, Mr Cook and Mrs Payne, who all supported the team on Saturday evening.

Well done, Team Ashcombe!
