Careers

At The Ashcombe School we will ensure that every student receives high quality careers guidance education to help them develop into employable, resilient and successful individuals able to thrive in future job markets. With a vibrant Careers Programme across the school, all students have opportunities and inspiration throughout their time with us to raise aspirations and unlock potential.

To support our students we have developed a structured careers programme which is delivered to all our students from Year 7 - Year 13. This aims to provide objective and wide-ranging advice and guidance in respect to all future opportunities.

Students will have access to a range of careers support delivered through workshops, careers fairs, assemblies, employer talks, alumni speakers, business mentoring and trips to colleges and Universities. Students can request a guidance appointment at any time throughout their academic life and students will be offered support at key transition points such as Year 9 Options, Year 11 career planning and moving into the 6th Form.

Our Careers Programme embraces the Gatsby Benchmarks which provide the 'gold standard' in advice and guidance in education and we adhere to the Statutory Guidance for Careers, including the Provider Access Legislation (2023) and the Baker Clause (2018).

Our Careers Programme was described as "high quality.....(preparing) pupils well" and offering  "a raft of opportunities" by Ofsted in May 2024.

We welcome contact with parents, employers and interested organisations with feedback on the programme and offers of support.

For our students in Key Stage 3 and 4 we are embedding Careers into the whole curriculum and working closely with PSHE to incorporate Careers into lessons. We have regular career assemblies, and career events including both educational and professional encounters. Dynamic Programmes  - Discover and Explore - ensure all students get exposure to as many careers and routes as possible throughout their time with us.

  • The Discover Programme focuses in depth on a different career each term starting with a tutor group discussion followed by an opportunity to meet professionals in this career.
  • The Explore Programme involves a range of professionals taking part in an engagement activity with students, deepening knowledge and information.

As students progress through the school, activities, interviews and events will be reviewed and added enabling all students to access the tools for success in their future.

These Programmes run in addition to our annual large-scale Careers and Apprenticeship Fairs. - for information about these events and their impact, please take a look below:
