Energy

We consume a huge amount of energy everyday. Encourage your teacher to switch off the lights when you leave the classroom. Make sure electrical equipment is turned off when it is not in use. Do you think wind turbines or solar panels are a good idea?

Transport

How do you get to school? Many of us get to school in a car, but is it possible to use public transport, ride a bike, walk or car share. This would help to reduce the impact we are having on the environment.

Litter

The site team currently spends 45 hours a mouth picking up litter on the school grounds. Make sure litter is always put in the bins. Do you have any ideas to encourage students to stop dropping litter?

Recycling and Waste

We generate a huge amount of waste everyday and a lot of this could be recycled. The Eco-Committee are investigating the possibility of introducing recycling. Watch this space for more information!

Biodiversity / school grounds

We want to make the Ashcombe a greener environment. The Eco-Committee aim to get more green plants in school and possibly create a conservation area.

Water

We are currently getting water saving devices installed in the toilets, but if you see taps left running, turn them off. If you find taps dripping or leaks, report them immediately.

Healthy Eating

The new canteen facilities provide healthier meals at breaktime and lunchtime. There are also new drinking water machines available. The PE department provides loads of clubs to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Over the next year we will be focusing on a number of different projects to help make the Ashcombe a more environmentally friendly place. If you have any ideas or want to be involved please email Miss Eagles. We also want some help from parents and the local community.
