Dorking Schools Sustainable Development Network: background

In 2006 the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) described a sustainable school as one that 'is guided by the principle of care: care for oneself, care for each other and care for the environment'.

The Dorking Schools Sustainable Development Network provides an opportunity for all schools to share information and resources on environmental education.

In January 2008 the Ashcombe School was awarded funding from the National College of School Leadership (NCSL) to enable other schools in the area to develop sustainability.

The new network will meet once a term and aims to support a wide range of activities for the benefit of all the schools.

In June 2008 the new group will be launched at the ‘Big Sing’ event.
