Dorking Schools Language Development Group

There has always been a strong ethos of co-operation between Dorking schools and groups of teachers regularly meet for discussions and training sessions covering a wide range of subjects.

The Modern Foreign Language group has always been one of the strongest and eventually evolved into the Dorking Schools Language Development Group, under the ægis of The Ashcombe Language College.

The DSLDG committee meets several times each year to discuss a wide range of issues, including:

KS2-KS3 MFL Transition

Primary and Secondary MFL colleagues from Dorking Schools Language Development Group meet regularly to discuss the KS2 Framework, schemes of work, pedagogy, progression and transition.

There are mutual observation opportunities cross-phase as part of CDP for teachers and Year 9 pupils visit Year 6 to share language games and activities.

We have devised a booklet in French, German and Spanish, which is used by children from Year 3 to Year 6. It is a self/peer-assessed record of their knowledge and progress in a Modern Foreign Language. The A5 booklet is sent to the Dorking secondary schools and it is stuck into the back of a MFL exercise book so that teachers can easily see the topics taught and pupils' acquired knowledge. There is a revision page for Year 7 to complete within the first half term.

Download the French Passport and/or German Passport and adapt to suit your needs.

From time to time, teachers in the various schools are able to work with the Language College's MFL Outreach Teacher to source or produce teaching materials. Where appropriate, these resources are available via the MFL Curriculum section of this site (link below).
